Media

We were set some homework by Mr VS about sony, and i was on google researching when I stumbles across this article and thought it was quite true and it tied in with the whole media and being influenced by the media subject! I thought it was interesting to hear someone else say it..
''We mobile users are never satisfied. We're always looking forward to the next big handset, even when ours is still fairly new. It's partly down to the mobile industry itself, which makes its money from persuading us to upgrade to a new phone every 12-18 months with swankier features.Sometimes, our lust for new handsets is just wishful thinking. Such is the case, presently, with the rumours surrounding Sony Ericsson making a PlayStation Phone (or PSP for short. Er... hang on...).''
The rest of the article is about sony trying to make a play station mobile if you want to read it!!!

Wednesday 1 October 2008

This time Mrs Franis asked us to analyse a film. So i chose the last one i had seen in cinimar!!

Brief Synopsis

Sophie is getting married and wants her father to walk her down the Aisle, but the catch is she doesn’t know who he is! So she reads her mums diary and finds out ‘there were three guys all around the same time.’ So Sophie invited them all, without her mum knowing, thinking she will know who he is when she sees him!

Things take off when they all arrive. Sophie hides them in the old goat shed and her mum soon hears something up there, so goes to investigate. She sees all the men, but how they were years ago. She doesn’t believe her eyes and breaks into song. She falls through the roof and sees them but doesn’t understand why they are there, and doesn’t stay around long enough to find out. Sophie doesn’t know her mum knows about the men and while her mum is tearing her hair out, Sophie is trying to find out which one is her father. She can’t decide, so says they can all walk her down the aisle but she is still left with how she is going to tell two of them that they can’t!

On the day of the marriage the whole plot is turned up-side-down when Sophie and Sky don’t get married at all, and it’s Sophie’s mum, Donna and the man who only ever had eyes for her, Sam Carmichael are the pair who get married. A shock comes out when Harry Bright let’s out he’s gay, and Bill Anderson ‘takes a chance’ on Rosie!

How the character is represented

Donna Sheridan played by Meryl Streep is portrayed as a head strong women, (which is shown in the fact she remains unmarried) who secretly wants to be looked after and be taken care of by an even more head strong man who knows what she wants, even though she is afraid to admit it for people thinking she is weak and can’t look after herself.

Most of the time Donna is drowned out in tatty old blue dungarees, which are broken and falling apart. They mirror the shape of her hotel. The dungarees also give her a laid back, hippie feel which helps emphasis her wild youth and transition into the relaxed but hectic older age.

How the character contributes to narrative

Meryl Streep makes Donna a very funny character. She is so laid back and goes with the flow, although she is a slap dash kind of person, and this is shown by the state of her hotel. Although she tries her best to keep the hotel running, she just has to keep mending things and doesn’t anticipate what will happen next, which makes her quit a airy fairy type of lady. So although all her worries are slowly building up, Donna seems to have quit a small tension span to one thing, and her mind keeps jumping from episode to episode. Meryl creates a character who desperately wants the best for her daughter but doesn’t want to be alone! And some on the cracks of her worries are beginning to show, until she is swept away by Sam.

Film review of Aladdin

Mr Van Straten asked us to do a film review of our fav films. I have so many, so here is just one...

Aladdin

Aladdin is an animated, adventure, fantasy musical based on an Arab folktale, about a young street boy named Aladdin who tackles the dangers of the street of a fictional Arabian city, Agrabah, many years ago, with his only friend, a trusty monkey, Abu.

The film begins with a man ridding a camel singing Arabian Nights. It creates an air of mystery and suspense as we don’t know where the man is going or why he is in the desert!

We meet Jasmine, a young teenage princess from the palace of Agrabah. She is not allowed to leave the palace walls, but must be married before her next birthday! Having turned away every suitor who has tried to win her, she is fed up ‘having her life lived for her,’ so she decides to venture outside the palace disguised, and on top of the wall she sees the dusty marketplace for the very first time.

She soon meets the mischievous Aladdin and Abu and their friendship begins to explode. Meanwhile the Sultans evil adviser, Jafar looks into his magical machine to see who the ‘Diamond in the Rough’ is, for that person is the only person who can go into the ‘cave of wonders’ to retrieve the magic lamp to complete the evil Jafar’s evil plan! The image reflected back to him is none other than...Aladdin.

I still remember the first time I ever saw Aladdin. I must have been about 5 or 6 and I was living in Antigua. It was hot so I had all the windows open for a draft.
It was on Sky (courtesy of my dads’ job) and I was sitting on a cushion on the wooden floor with my back against the blue sofa. After I’d seen it I asked for it on video for my birthday: I got my mum to make me a Jasmine outfit and bought a purple and sparkly silver hair tie with Jasmines’ face stuck on it which I wore all the time in a pineapple! I think this is one of my favorite films, not only because it’s a classic Disney film but also in the Caribbean I had some of the best times in my life and the film adds to my fairytale image of what it was like living over there.

Media Diary!

Hey.

Just to add to my media diary.

Most mornings are the usual 7.00-8.25 capital radio listening, although today it was 7.30, and I was late to school, thus missing chapel!!! My dads comment was 'blame it on your mother'!!!!

Now am listening to heart radio, (because I'm cool) and early at the South Africa meeting we watched 'Goodbye Bafana'! Some parts were sooo sad but others were heart warming. It was really moving and it’s a must watch!!! So go get it out at blockbuster!!!

In business studies we were on the internet for about half an hour researching franchise!!
Quite boring, but you can go have a look if you want, www.franchisedirect.co.uk
www.totalfranchise.co.uk, and www.franchiseexpo.co.uk if you want to have a look???

In Media Studies we were looking at a PowerPoint presentation about Media

I can't think what else I have done to do with Media!!!
